On May 16, 23 students arrived in Nicaragua to begin Summer Institute 2016! Here’s how it’s going so far:

After the first week in Granada, students are starting to get the hang of things and starting to learn how to deal with immersion into a new culture. They are especially enjoying Spanish classes.

On Friday, we covered tools, both in Spanish in the morning, and in lab to ensure proper usage to help avoid misunderstanding later.

In lab, students completed building their extension cords and started to gain some hands-on experience. On Friday, we continued this by looking at medical equipment that was available. This actually worked out really well as much of it was working and they got to see the mechanisms. One student asked to stay late (crazy, right?) and successfully fixed something!

Today (Saturday), the Spanish school set up a very nice trip, packed with experiences. The day was filled with practicing pottery, exploring pueblos, trying local food, and experiencing traditional Nicaraguan dancing. The students and staff had a blast!

That's all I have to report. Thank you for all of your support thus far!
