Hello Friends,

April is a month filled with preparation at Engineering World Health as we finalize arrangements with our new Summer Institute participants. Along with that, this year we're looking forward to hosting many of you at our upcoming Board events. And last but not least, EWH is excited to announce a new Kit is on its way!

Find out more about what EWH is up to below:

Summer Institute 2017

The 2017 January Institutes were a great success this year, with 44 participants repairing 360 pieces of equipment in Nepal, Guatemala, and Cambodia. The 23 students visiting Cambodia from the Universities of New South Wales and Sydney went above and beyond, repairing 252 pieces of equipment!

And now it's time for the Summer Institutes to begin! Members of the Class of 2017 are currently preparing for their programs in Nicaragua, Rwanda, Tanzania, Nepal, and Uganda! We're expecting 86 new participants and two SI Alumni to participate this year. The SI Class of 2017 is 56% women, and carries passports from 16 different countries, including Bulgaria, China, Italy, Malaysia, Mexico, Nigeria, Norway, Portugal, and South Africa. We can't wait to see what our newest group will do!

Shout out to our university partners Duke University, Texas A&M, and the Technical University of Denmark for their help recruiting students and facilitating student training. And thanks, as always, to our scholarship providers: Access Healthcare in Nepal, BD, Corning, Danaher, the Derfner Foundation, the Noble Foundation, the Hamilton-Roddis Foundation, the FJC group, Tensentric Inc, our board, and individual donors. We could not run this program without your generous support.

You're invited!

It's not too late to RSVP to one of our upcoming Board events.

New Kit Coming this Fall!
Pressure + Calibration

The new EWH Pressure + Calibration Kit will measure liquid and air pressure using a simple circuit that students build themselves. The sensor will require calibration and can be re-calibrated for different educational activities and training in the field. In completing the Kit, students will be exposed to critical engineering concepts, such as the physics of pressure, the function of sensors, and the importance of calibration.

Keep an eye out for updates about this Kit's release!
