Engineering World Health (EWH) is excited to announce our merger with Engineers Without Borders USA (EWB-USA), a move that promises to significantly enhance our ability to drive positive change in underserved communities worldwide.

A Merger of Vision and Values

This strategic merger is more than just a union of two organizations; it’s the coming together of shared visions, complementary expertise, and a passion for making a tangible difference. EWB-USA has long been at the forefront of developing sustainable infrastructure that addresses critical needs in communities both within the United States and internationally. EWH, with its focus on equipping low-resource healthcare facilities with essential medical equipment and training biomedical engineering students, brings invaluable expertise to the table. Together, we are poised to tackle global health challenges more holistically, bridging the gap between infrastructure and healthcare to amplify our impact.

Enhancing Global Health Through Engineering

By combining our strengths, EWB-USA and EWH are uniquely positioned to deliver comprehensive solutions that go beyond traditional engineering projects. Our collaboration will allow us to expand our engineering services in healthcare facilities, ensuring that the infrastructure we build is not only sustainable but also equipped with the necessary tools and technology to support long-term health outcomes. This means that in addition to our existing projects in water, sanitation, energy, and agriculture, we’ll be able to offer specialized biomedical engineering services that directly benefit healthcare centers in underserved areas.

What Does This Mean for Our Chapters and Volunteers?

For our dedicated volunteers and chapter members, this merger opens up exciting new opportunities. Going forward, all programming will be under the EWB-USA umbrella, with EWH’s institutes being integrated over the next year. This means that student chapters, particularly those with biomedical engineering members, can now add health-related improvement goals to their existing infrastructure projects. While EWB-USA has always welcomed volunteers of all disciplines within engineering and other fields, our projects have largely had a civil-engineering focus to them, this merge means that our volunteers focused on biomedical engineering can now bring even more of their skills front and center in our projects. 

With this merger, Engineering World Health will become fully integrated into Engineers Without Borders USA. EWB-USA’s brand will be used for all projects moving forward, while still maintaining the spirit and mission of EWH. Now that EWH has merged with EWB-USA, all EWH volunteers are now EWB-USA volunteers.
