Central America Schedule and Costs for 2010

Schedule (June 17 - August 15)
EWH Summer Program begins (June 17)
All participants meet at San Jose International Airport in San Jose, Costa Rica by 10pm.
Costa Rica (June 18 – July 16)
June 18: Orientation and Spanish placement, first technical class
June 19: Rafting trip
June 21: Classes begin, schedule for Monday-Thursday:

Schedule for Fridays
8:00-5:00 Field work in local hospital
Host Country (July 17– August 14)
July 17: Travel to host country (Nicaragua or Honduras)
July 18 – August 13: Work in host hospital, 8:00 - 5:00 or as determined by your hospital supervisor
End of Program Meeting (August 14 - August 15)
August 14: 1:00PM, all participants arrive in Managua, Nicaragua
August 14-15: Poster presentations and discussion
EWH Summer Experience ends (August 15)
3:00PM Shuttles to Managua airport
Costs

The program fee includes:
- Pre-departure preparation and information
- Transportation within Central America o All students receive airfare from Costa Rica to their host country halfway through the program
- Medical Emergency Evacuation Insurance
- Medical Kit
- Cell Phone (for second month only)
- Housing and meals (two per day for two months)
- 1 month of intensive second language training (Spanish)
- 1 month of intensive medical instrumentation training
- Textbooks and lab supplies - Social Activities (rafting)
- Field support from EWH while in host country
- Ongoing support from EWH US office
o All students receive transportation from host country airport to homestay on the first day in their host country
o Honduran students receive airfare from Honduras to Managua, Nicaragua at the end of the program.
o AIRFARE TO SAN JOSE, COSTA RICA AT THE BEGINNING OF THE PROGRAM AND HOME FROM MANAGUA, NICARAGUA FOLLOWING THE END OF PROGRAM MEETING ARE NOT INCLUDED
The fee does NOT include souvenirs, obtaining a passport, international airfare, the required immunizations*, transportation to/from class and work**, lunch***, entry and exit fees for each country being visited, transportation to airport from hospital in Central America or sightseeing. The fee does NOT include the cost for receiving college credit for the required coursework.
* You must show proof of immunization for Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Tetanus (within 10 years), Typhoid and measles.
** Typically $1 per day
*** Typically $2-$5 per day
