Schedule (June 2 - July 31)
EWH Summer Program begins (June 2)
All participants meet at Kilimanjaro International Airport (KIA) in Tanzania, no later than 8:45PM
Usa River, Tanzania (June 3 – June 28)
June 3: Orientation to Tanzania and EWH, host family introductions
June 4: Classes begin, Schedule for Monday-Thursday:

Host Hospital (June 29— July 29)
June 29: Travel to host hospital
June 30 – July 29: Work in host hospital, 8:00 - 5:00 or as determined by your hospital supervisor
All Program Meeting (July 30)
1:00PM, All students return to Usa River, Tanzania for presentations and discussion
EWH Summer Experience ends (July 31)
3:00PM Shuttles to airport

Costs

The program fee includes:
- Pre-departure preparation and information
- Transportation from host airport to homestay and back (AIRFARE NOT INCLUDED)
- Medical Emergency Evacuation Insurance
- Medical Kit
- Cell Phone
- Housing
- 3 meals per day for the first month only
- 1 month of intensive second language training (Swahili)
- 1 month of intensive medical instrumentation training
- Textbooks and lab supplies
- Social Activities (cultural program)
- Field support from EWH while in host country
- EWH-Duke Summer Institute T-shirt
- Ongoing support from EWH US office
The fee does NOT include souvenirs, obtaining a passport, international airfare, meals during the second month, the required immunizations*, transportation to/from class and work**, transportation from hospital to training center for the end of program meeting, entry and exit fees for Tanzania. The fee does NOT include the cost for receiving college credit for the required coursework.
* You must show proof of immunization for Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Tetanus (within 10 years), Typhoid, Yellow Fever, and measles.
** Typically $1 per day
